OneWeb: Satellite providers goes stellar in six weeks with DataOps.live platform, Snowflake and AWS
A DataOps.live platform and Snowflake are enabling this pioneering global communications provider to govern every item of data, automate every data pipeline, and create a powerful culture of self-service analytics.
Challenges
- How to deliver great service on an optimally performing network, with complete visibility of operations?
- Bringing data together from multiple sources and giving data engineers easy data access, plus self-service tools for OneWeb people.
Solution
- Build, test and deploy data environments in the same way as software is developed.
- DataOps.live, Snowflake and AWS solution based on multiple Snowflake tenants, orchestrated data pipelines, and with a massively scalable data hub, all built in only six weeks.
Results
- Data in the hands of consumers in minutes.
- 70 Billion records ingested daily and Billion of rows analyzed in seconds.
- Data is now monetized - millions of $ in net new Revenue.
AWS Solution focus:
OneWeb utilizes DataOps.live for all their Snowflake infrastructure management and to run their data pipelines. OneWeb Data Cloud infrastructure runs on AWS infrastructure. The support for both Snowflake and AWS from within DataOps.live is key for this to be successful.
To ensure the handling of such data and instances, DataOps.live has built an AWS Orchestrator that can support a wide range of AWS services to:
- Allow the deployment of any Snowflake instances on AWS,
- Allow user to select any warehouse size available out of the box from Snowflake database,
- Have all the SQL models executed seamlessly via 3rd party connectors/providers,
- Have a stage ingestion orchestrator that further enables ingestion into the database without any limitations, where often a use case is to have raw data (parquet, csv) from an S3 bucket ingested directly into a Snowflake table.
“The data hub is a self-service business tool that is helping us to understand and optimise the operational complexities of the amazing network we are building.
This approach delivers strong governance, the necessary geo restrictions, departmental autonomy, and that all-important innovation at speed."
