What’s Holding Back Generative AI? A Surprising Roadblock

What’s Holding Back Generative AI? A Surprising Roadblock
3:43

The first of a series of 4 blog posts on AIOps and DataOps.

I recently went to a CTO conference where everyone was talking about Generative AI (Gen AI), and one theme kept coming up: Prototypes and pilots are cool, but actually scaling them to deliver business value? Now, that’s the real challenge.

This left me scratching my head. My team and I have been building Gen AI prototypes and full applications for what feels like forever (and in tech, that’s anything over 18 months, right?). We haven’t run into the same scaling problems that everyone seemed so worried about. So, what was I missing?

The Real Reason Scaling Hasn't Been a Problem for Us

As the talks went on, I started to realize why scaling hasn’t been an issue for us: it’s all about the infrastructure. For all of our Gen AI work, we’ve been using Snowflake, with Cortex, Streamlit, and Native Apps, all thanks to DataOps.live.

Here’s the thing: when we build a prototype, we don’t start from scratch or slap together something that’s going to be a headache later. Everything we build is defined as code and configuration right from the beginning. That means scaling, updates, automated testing, and deployments are part of the process from day one. So, when someone asks us to take a prototype to production at scale, we don’t have to go back and rework everything. The hard part is already done.

And if you’ve worked with Snowflake before, you know how easy it is to tweak the virtual warehouse or compute pool sizing. Need to scale? Rerun the pipeline, and boom—it’s live, at scale, with all the governance and assurance you’d expect. It’s honestly quicker than writing the email to request the scale-up.

Why Others Are Struggling to Scale

So, why are so many teams still having trouble scaling their Gen AI applications?

From where I’m standing, it looks like it’s all about the infrastructure and processes they’re using. Many teams rush to get a prototype up and running, focusing on speed and novelty, but they aren’t thinking about how they’ll scale later. The result? A cool proof-of-concept that’s stuck as a small, isolated project. When the time comes to go big, they have to spend a ton of time refactoring and rebuilding just to get it ready for production.

This is where DataOps.live has been a lifesaver for us. It provides a consistent, structured framework that manages the whole lifecycle of our apps—from prototype to production. Everything is defined as code, so when it’s time to scale, we’re not starting from scratch or re-engineering the wheel.

The Bottom Line: Snowflake + DataOps.live = Easy Scaling

If you’re struggling to operationalize and scale your Gen AI prototypes, the solution isn’t just building better prototypes—it’s using the right tools to turn those prototypes into production-ready applications. That’s where the combination of Snowflake and DataOps.live really shines.

With Snowflake, scaling is a breeze. The platform’s virtual warehouse and compute pools make resource management super simple. Then, DataOps.live takes over with structure and automation, making everything from deployment to testing smooth and efficient.

Together, these tools remove all the friction from scaling. What used to take forever—refactoring, migrating, redeploying—now comes down to tweaking a few settings and hitting “go.”

In a nutshell, the partnership between Snowflake’s scalability and DataOps.live’s operational efficiency gives you a seamless way to go from prototype to production without breaking a sweat. If you’re serious about unlocking the full potential of Gen AI, it’s time to start using this powerhouse combo.
